Great place to have a nice walk. Lovely views from the top of the locks. Dog friendly and good pathways for baby strollers/prams.
Called in for lunch and a warm after an enjoyable walk along the canal side. Fairly busy with a mix of young families and older diners. Three young staff working hard, running the bar and serving tables - about 20 minute wait for food, which was clearly freshly cooked and piping hot.Large cod and chips was delicious - the batter was thin and crisp, coating moist and flakey fish -the chips fluffy and crisp too. Steak and kidney pudding was generous in size and contained plenty of meaty filling, accompanied by mash and veg.The menu is quite varied and contains a good selection of pub classics - prices about average for chain pub food with the added bonus of a canalside setting. Well behaved dogs are welcomed too.
Location 5/5 Service 3/5. Decent food and pint. It's over 40 years since I visited the area as a kid. 30 years since I certainly I worked on a small project in the area. Overall worth a visit.
We came for a quick lunch, alas although service was prompt the food was anything but. We only ordered light bites but they took forever to arrive even though the pub wasnt busy. The beer was badly kept which did not help the time waiting to go any quicker. When the food arrived my order was wrong which compounded the poor experience. The rest of the food was fine though and reasonable value. We brought our issues to the attention when prompted by our server but didn't even receive an apology. Nice location and menu varied and reasonable value.
Helped enormously by being a very sunny day, but well worth a visit. A tremendous amount of history and it is wonderfully to see the flight in action. The lock keepers were working very hard yet still had time to explain the workings. Plenty of places to eat and drink and easy, good value parking.
