Excellent friendly ale house with comfortable seating and a large selection of well kept ales.
I hate rating stuff because its impossible to be completely fair. Now that Ive rated here 5 stars; either I had to get one star back from all the places that Ive given 5 stars before, or I had to do something extra for the Beerhouse. So, I just wrote this ridiculously long comment that no one will ever read. Here are 5 reasons why the Beerhouse deserves all of those 5 stars:A woman can actually drink alone (and not feel weird about it): I moved to Market Harborough from a different country, let alone from another town. I didnt know anyone around, I havent started to work yet, it was the hottest summer in the UK and I love beer. All these combined, led to the inevitable conclusion: me drinking alone. Id been all to the pubs and bars around and almost burst into tears when Ive found a place where no one was trying to figure out what is exactly wrong with me. I know a lot of pubs which claim to be women friendly (whatever that supposed to mean) but drinking without being disturbed alone doesnt mean youll feel totally comfortable. Here, I can guarantee you that you wont feel like a strange creature from a far, far away galaxy. No one would even notice you unless you want them to. Im the living (and drinking) proof of that! The beer (obviously): If you walk into a place called the Beerhouse, you expect good beer. You wont be disappointed! The selection of beers changes all the time, but you can be sure that any beer you order would be great as they are all tasted and approved beforehand. There is a reason for all the beer enthusiasts who are regulars here. I have no idea how they can deal with all these breweries and huge selection of beers, ale and ciders. But theyre doing great. And if you are wine person or just feel like drinking cider today they also have those. The people are great: I hate the term The staff is great! which is something you see in many comments. It sounds like the people working there are a single entity and dont have their own personalities. Theyre just staff, you know, not even real people! Thats why I wrote the people are great because every single one of the people who work there is awesome. They are all different from each other and theres no We dont care who you are outside, just leave that personality of yours out when youre working! policy. So, by great I dont just mean theyre friendly, smiling, kind and fast; theyre I want to be friends with them! kind of great. There is a book club: I love beer and I love books. So I was super happy when I found out that Beerhouse also has a book club! My expectations were quite low, because book clubs are usually filled with boring people wearing scarves, complaining about the quality of the scallops they had yesterday, using unnecessarily fancy words; or with people who actually have no idea about books, seem to be ended up there by mistake, make irrelevant comments about anything. But! This book club is heavenly! Ive never seen a group of people who are that knowledgeable, interested, super intelligent and fun at the same time. Sometimes we start to talk about the politics in Middle East, have an argument about epistemology, discuss the effect of genes on human behaviour and end up telling silly jokes. Because why not?Its owners are the best: It took me quite some time to figure out that one of the guys from the book club was also the owner of this place with his wife. Im not even sure how should a pub-owner look or act like, but I was probably expecting someone who is more similar to those innkeepers from middle ages. And after knowing them better, I was completely relieved that half of my salary is not going to a modern day vigilant who cares only about profits, or a racist and sexist jerk who uses the pub just to get laid, or a brainless Trump fan whod probably starve to death if we lived in a more meaningful world. I probably would go there anyway, but I even love this place more now that I know it is owned by sensible, intelligent and nice people who are REALLY passionate about what they do.
A beer drinkers delight. So many choices of excellent ales available here. Not fancy but clean surroundings in a friendly convivial atmosphere. A must.
Excellent place to go if you are a true beer enthusiast or even if you would just like to try some of the more unusual beers. Well worth a visit.
