If I could rate 0 stars, I would. I am physically appalled by the staff and the standards they believe are acceptable at this school. The undeniable double standards between the students and the teachers are absolutely outrageous; students are allowed one set of discreet earrings, absolutely no nail varnish, no short skirts, no coats on inside even if you are just walking through to get to your lesson etc when a handful of teachers, some even being college leaders, simply get to ignore this rule. One female teacher springs to mind when mentioning this, obnoxiously gelled nails (that can only be done at a salon), extremely short skirts and dresses; hair that would be seen as inappropriate if on a student. This same teacher has also informed female students of their nails and told them to remove them immediately, whilst having their own nails painted, but on other occasions have complimented the same students on the colour they chose. It is simply pathetic. The head teacher has also recently enforced a new rule; no phones on school grounds, including before and after school. Personally, I agree with no phones during lessons or lunch, unless its absolutely vital, which is what it used to be. Now however, if a student is seen on their phone whilst leaving the school, it is confiscated and a parent must collect it! It is quite frankly ridiculous. My daughter was on her phone to myself as I needed to tell her that I couldn't pick her up today due to an urgency at work; she needed to pick up her coat from her form room so she thought it would be more acceptable that she was on her phone outside, rather than in the corridors. However, she was firmly greeted by a male member of staff who was very direct and more importantly, rude and unreasonable. When explaining that it was her parent on the phone, the teacher took no sympathy and quite unprofessionally spoke down to her, "do you lack common sense or are you just stupid" was an example of his repulsive behaviour. This rule is simply ridiculous. Some parents, like myself, are unable to collect confiscated items such as mobile phones due to work or the inability to get there, having to leave work to collect such items could result in a smaller income for that month, depending on employment contracts. This rule fails to acknowledge this and could be viewed as ignorant to different students' home lives. The facilities are also not to standards. The biggest female toilets are often closed with no explanation, leaving the humanities block (containing 2 toilets) and the link corridor (3 toilets, sometimes the one of the end doesn't lock, meaning 2 toilets) the only available bathrooms. This, in addition to the many students of each year, is preposterous! I have also been told the link corridor toilets can start to smell horrendous, like drains, which prevents students from using them as it is so unhygienic. Not to mention the insensitive teachers, who, seem more bothered by students' nails than the large amount of pupils currently failing GCSEs: due to lack of teachers, mental health issues, drug problems and unmotivated peers. Interestingly enough, it was rumoured that a few years back, a teacher was caught on site with drugs in their system and this same teacher is still attending this school, with no consequences. This school is a pitiful joke. The attempt to morph into a well respected, highly achieving, private-like School, is humorous. I could mention many more events that have occurred but I would sincerely, be here all day. Cannot wait until my daughter finishes!
